How CCTV Pipe Inspections Can Save You Time and Money

Over the years, CST group has built a reputation as one of New Zealand’s most trusted service providers in the fields of liquid waste removal, and rural water delivery. Since adding CCTV inspections to our list of services in 2019, we have had no shortage of happy customers in that field as well.

The advent of CCTV inspections has eliminated the need to conduct costly and invasive excavations, and our clients know they can enjoy a fast, affordable, and accurate inspection at unbeatable value. In this blog, we break down how CCTV pipe inspections work and how scheduling regular inspections can keep your pipeline running smoothly while saving you money in the long term.

What Is CCTV Pipe Inspection?

This method of pipe inspection uses a specialised CCTV camera to check for problems such as tree roots, cracks and gaps, scale build-up, and organic matter clogging your pipes.

A camera is fed into the pipe system attached to a long lead, providing the operator with a 360° view of the inside of the pipe. This method is used to establish connectivity and identify obstructions and may be conducted if a problem is suspected or as a matter of routine maintenance.

What Are the Advantages of CCTV Pipe Inspection?

The main benefits of CCTV pipe inspection are that it is fast, non-invasive, affordable, and accurate.

The image generated by a CCTV camera shows the operator exactly what is creating the problem and at exactly what point in the pipeline, meaning they can make an informed decision on the best method of rectifying it. In other words, the CCTV method takes the guesswork out of pipe inspection and repair.

Prior to CCTV inspections, an obstruction in your pipes often meant excavating all or part of the system just to find out what was causing the problem. Needless to say, this can be a hugely expensive and time-consuming operation.

The fact that CCTV inspections on your pipes can be carried out quickly and inexpensively without the need for excavation means that you can take a proactive approach to pipe maintenance, rather than a reactive one. Many developers and builders choose to perform a post-construction CCTV inspection to ensure that their pipes are free of faults and obstructions. This saves both time and money in performing costly repairs to damaged pipes.

Others choose to conduct regular pipe inspections to identify potential problems such as build-up of scale and fat. These problems can be dealt with before they cause any faults in the connectivity of the pipeline.
