Hydro Jetting/Drain Unblocking: An Overview | CST Group LTD

Hydro Jetting: An Overview

Whether your pipes have a serious blockage that is wreaking havoc with your plumbing system or you just want a regular clean to prevent the build-up of grease, scale, and silt, there is a good chance that hydro jetting will be your best option. Hydro jetting is a process in which water is forced through a hose at extremely high pressure (compared to the average car power washer, hydro jetting is about 30 times more powerful) creating a stream forceful enough to break down tree roots and flush out the remaining debris. At CST, our Jetter Truck is suitable for domestic and industrial pipework.

At high enough pressures, it can even be used to cut and remove stone and concrete. We also offer a hydro excavation service (Hydrovac), where pressurised water is used to clear earth and expose underground pipelines. This is much quicker and less labour-intensive than manual digging. It is also far less risky for technicians, as they are not required to be in close contact with potentially dangerous pipelines.

What Are the Advantages of Hydro Jetting?

First and foremost, hydro jetting offers remarkable versatility. This method of cleaning can be used to safely, quickly, and reliably unclog everything from household drains to industrial piping systems without fear of damaging your pipes. It is less costly and intrusive than dismantling the clogged pipes and is more environmentally friendly than other alternatives, such chemical drain cleaning, which uses corrosive acid and alkaline substances to erode and dislodge blockages.

What Kinds of Issue Is Hydro Jetting Best Suited To?

Hydro jetting is often used for general maintenance; regular hydro jetting keeps pipes clear of grease and silt that builds up over time and is able to lift scale from surfaces. It is often used before CCTV pipe inspections to clear debris and increase visibility, helping technicians to identify any issues.

This method is also effective for clearing a variety of blockages including organic waste, mineral build-ups, and in some cases, tree root systems. However, this will also depend on the severity of the blockage and the condition of the pipes. In cases where the structural integrity of the pipes has been significantly degraded or damaged, a different approach may be needed.

The most important factor in determining whether hydro jetting will be an effective solution to your problem is choosing a technician with the right experience and tools for the job. As one of New Zealand’s most trusted hydro technicians, our team of trained professionals have the expert knowledge and breadth of experience to give you the advice you need to make informed decisions about your pipes.
